Defender Calvin Bassey will be leaving Rangers, according to manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
According to reports, the Scottish Premiership team and Ajax Amsterdam, the Eredivisie champions, have reached an agreement for the player’s transfer.
The 22-year-old will cost Ajax €22 million plus €5 million in add-ons.
The Nigerian international will sign a five-year contract after undergoing a club physical this weekend.
Bassey was not included in Rangers’ Saturday exhibition game against Blackpool.
“Keeping him behind was preferable for everyone. It appears that Calvin is moving on; I believe we are in talks with interested clubs,” Van Bronckhorst said to Sky Sports.
Naturally, I want to keep Calvin because of his amazing growth over the past six months as he transitioned from the bench to the squad.
“I’m incredibly pleased with his accomplishments, but when players do well in the league and in Europe, attention will be paid to them. Everything we do ultimately needs to be for the club’s benefit.
“The squad is doing great right now. We replaced the departing members and brought in newcomers, but now that Calvin might follow them, we need to find another player to join the team.
“Our list is prepared. We can start planning for another player to join once the agreement is completed.
After Leon Balogun and Joe Aribo, Bassey will be the third Nigerian to quit the Gers this year.
